The back door of our condo unit opens into the garbage area (it's unusual even in a cold climate for garbage to be kept inside, but that is our building's way) - the one upside to this feature is that we get first crack at the free stuff. There is an understanding that usable items will be lined against the wall, rather than pitched into the garbage cans. We have accumulated a desk from Bombay Company, a storage unit, a small table, and random tableware in this fashion.
On Saturday, I got a thriller by Patricia Cornwell, and M. got a mid-90's era boombox with CD player and radio, in good working condition. We look forward to using it out at the pool this summer.
